Lampedusa 3 ottobre 2013, la strage che fece aprire gli occhi all’Italia<\/h1>\n<\/div>\n

Da gioved\u00ec 1 a sabato 3 ottobre a Lampedusa la \u201cSeconda giornata della Memoria e della Accoglienza\u201d vuol far memoria delle 368 vittime del naufragio del 3 ottobre 2013<\/b> e tutti i migranti scomparsi sulle rotte che portano in Europa. Sabato mattina, dopo l’inaugurazione della scultura Naufraghi, il momento pi\u00f9 intenso con la marcia verso la Porta d\u2019Europa dove i partecipanti si fermeranno in raccoglimento con i superstiti del naufragio e padre Mussie Zerai.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Il 3 ottobre 2013, alle 4.30 del mattino, una nave partita la sera precedente dalla Libia si rovescia a 800 metri dall\u2019Isola dei Conigli, il pezzo di terra separato da pochi metri di acqua da Lampedusa<\/b>
\nL\u2019imbarcazione ha a bordo tra 520 e 550 persone. Nonostante i tentativi di aggrapparsi a pezzi di relitto e l\u2019intervento di alcuni pescatori attirati dalle grida, 368 persone muoiono affogate<\/b>. I superstiti saranno 155, ma qualcuno sostiene che ci sia anche una ventina di dispersi.
\nSecondo le prime ricostruzioni, la causa del naufragio \u00e8 un incendio scoppiato nella stiva, mentre la barca \u00e8 ferma e in attesa di soccorsi. In realt\u00e0 l\u2019incendio \u00e8 la causa che scatena il panico a bordo, spingendo tutti i passeggeri da un lato e determinando il rovesciamento. Ma il fattore che provoca il maggior numero di vittime \u00e8 il riversarsi in mare di centinaia di litri di nafta<\/b> presenti nella stiva: il carburante oleoso impedisce a molte persone di essere salvate e ne intossica molte altre che vanno a fondo.<\/p>\n

Non \u00e8 la prima, ma \u00e8 una delle tragedie dell\u2019immigrazione pi\u00f9 gravi della storia moderna nel Mediterraneo<\/b>
\nEd \u00e8 quella che si ricorda di pi\u00f9 per almeno due motivi. \u00c8 anzitutto una strage quasi tutta eritrea: 360 vittime vengono da questo piccolo stato africano<\/b> (gli altri 8 dall\u2019Etiopia).
\nSperanza dell\u2019emancipazione dei paesi poveri dopo l\u2019indipendenza ottenuta dall\u2019Etiopia nei primi anni 90, il paese governato da Isaias Afewerki \u00e8 oggi una delle pi\u00f9 assurde dittature al mondo, con la popolazione costretta a una leva militare schiavizzata che pu\u00f2 durare tutta la vita. E con intere famiglie che decidono continuamente di scappare.
\n\u00c8 inoltre la strage che d\u00e0 origine all\u2019operazione Mare nostrum<\/b>, che nei 12 mesi successivi salver\u00e0 la vita a oltre 160 mila migranti provenienti dall\u2019Africa grazie alle navi della Marina militare autorizzate a intervenire a ridosso delle coste libiche.
\nUn\u2019operazione sospesa e sostituita da Triton (nella quale le navi potevano spingersi solo a 30 miglia dalle coste italiane), ma oggi di fatto tornata in vita, con numerosi salvataggi che continuano ad essere fatti oltre i limiti e con vari interventi di imbarcazioni private. Mare nostrum insomma ha contribuito in modo determinante a far aprire gli occhi all\u2019Europa sul fenomeno migratorio<\/b>, fino ad arrivare negli ultimi mesi, con molte resistenze, all\u2019approvazione degli accordi per la ricollocazione dei rifugiati nei paesi membri.<\/p>\n

Poco tempo dopo la strage di Lampedusa, si \u00e8 costituito il Comitato 3 Ottobre, con lo scopo di \u201cfare riconoscere la data quale \u2018Giornata della Memoria e dell\u2019Accoglienza\u2019 sia a livello nazionale che Europeo\u201d<\/b>
\n\u00c8 a questo comitato che si devono i tre giorni di commemorazione che anche quest\u2019anno animeranno l\u2019isola siciliana, insieme a molte altre iniziative organizzate in tutta Italia da varie associazioni.<\/p>\n

Da quell\u2019ottobre 2013 sono cambiate molte cose per Lampedusa<\/b>
\nProprio grazie a Mare nostrum, la \u201cporta d\u2019Europa\u201d ha smesso di essere l\u2019approdo preferito dei migranti che ora, salvati in alto mare, vengono condotti in altri parti italiani.
\nIl suo centro di prima accoglienza venne chiuso due mesi dopo anche grazie a un servizio di Valerio Cataldi sul Tg2 che rivelava i modi inumani in cui gli ospiti venivano trattati.
\nMa l\u2019isola \u00e8 gi\u00e0 sede di uno dei 5 \u201chotspot\u201d voluti dagli accordi europei dei migranti ed \u00e8 facile scommettere che il nome di Lampedusa continuer\u00e0 ancora a lungo ad essere uno dei simboli pi\u00f9 evocativi delle migrazioni del ventunesimo secolo.<\/b><\/p>\n<\/div>\n
